Polls Show Americans View Government & Economy as Nation’s Worst Problems

America and her citizens have stepped up time and time again to face problems head on, and 2014 was no exception. What do most Americans believe are our country’s biggest problems?

While terrorism, healthcare and immigration are undoubtedly at the front of many Americans’ minds, a recent poll showed that a large percentage of Americans believe that the two biggest problems in the United States right now involve government (our elected officials and their decisions) and the economy.

Other common responses included the Ebola virus outbreak and gun control, but the current economic debacle and lawmakers’ response (or lack thereof) has forced those two issues to remain at the front of many investors’ minds.

America and her people have consistently taken action to tackle issues head-on, and 2014 was no different. What do the majority of Americans think are the main issues facing our nation?

Although terrorism, healthcare, and immigration are undoubtedly on many Americans’ minds right now, a recent poll revealed that a sizable portion of people in the country think that the government (our elected officials and their decisions) and the economy are the two biggest problems facing the country right now.

The present economic crisis and lawmakers’ response (or lack thereof) has forced those two concerns to remain at the forefront of many investors’ minds. Other frequent answers included the Ebola virus outbreak and gun control.

Despite the crystal clear message relayed from the American people to lawmakers in these poll results, it appears that Congress has no intention of taking any action to remedy this situation due to the fact that Washington is full of “lame-duck” politicians after the midterm elections.

The Gallup poll that determined U.S. taxpayers’ biggest concerns are the economy and the government was conducted using telephone interviews of 828 adults from each of the 50 states, as well as the District of Columbia.
