VA Backlog Includes 238,000 Deceased Veterans

847,000 names appear on the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) official list of veterans awaiting healthcare services, but 238,000 of these have actually passed away since their application. A report entitled “Analysis of Death Services,” produced in April, 2015 jointly by the VA Health Eligibility Center and the VA Office of Analytics, has been leaked by a whistle-blowing VA employee to online media, and shows clearly that the department, currently claiming funding gaps in its budget, is not fulfilling its mandate.

Furthermore, another whistle-blower, Kristen Ruell, who works at the VA’s Philadelphia Medical Center, appeared before Congress this week to give more damning testimony. She stated that her bosses “were instructing us to change the dates of claims – on any claims, regardless of the circumstances – if they were older than a certain date.” A spot-check carried out last month by the VA’s Inspector General discovered “a room full of claims-related mail from veterans, up to 3 three years old, and still containing documents not scanned into the system.”

Advocates of Obamacare have used the VA as the perfect model of government-run healthcare. Embroiled in scandal as it now is, and justifiably so, these allegations, allied to proof, will simply not go away until drastic action is taken.
