What is Congress Doing about the TSA

This week, the Department of Homeland Security Inspector General released a second Transportation Security Administration (TSA) inspection report concerning the latter’s failure to properly background-check 73 individuals with clear “ties to terrorism”. This resulted in the 73 being given employment at various U.S. airports, some with major airlines.

Following on from the previous report which showed a 95% failure rate in covert testing of TSA security procedures (and previous disclosures regarding agents openly laughing at naked body scans, documents detailing alleged sexual assaults, and thousands of missing TSA uniforms and badges), a hearing was held in Congress this Wednesday. So what did they decide should be done to ensure the TSA fulfills their mandate in future?

The answer? Quite simply – nothing. Apart from the Democrats (unsurprisingly) suggesting more funding for the agency, little else was put forward.
